How to Manage Preparation For JEE Main 2014 along with Class XII Board Exams:
Syllabus Completion1. Syllabus Completion: The first aim should be to complete the Syllabus on hand. Since the syllabus for both is the same, it is better if you slot the chapters as per weightage and allot the needed time to study them thoroughly.
Make the list of chapters and check how much has been completed by you. The checklist will help you to know the portion you need to complete as well as the chapters you only need to revise.

Identify your strengths and weakness2. Identify your strengths and weakness: Keep track of the chapters you are weak in and need to work more on as well as the chapters you are strong in for revision. Knowing where you stand will aid you in scheduling your study such that you stand to prepare better.
Aim to revise the chapters you are strong in and study the important chapters you are weak in to improve your chances of success in the exams. Make use of the school /coaching notes for reference as you move further from studying to revision.

Plan your study schedule3. Plan your study schedule: It is important to schedule your study. A study plan will help you to prepare better with slots for learning and revision. Also make place for practice tests for JEE Main 2014as well as the Class Board Exams.
Schedule your study such that you learn/revise the chapter for the board exams and practice the same for JEE Main. Ideally it is better to sit and work mock tests/sample papers for JEE Main 2014 once a chapter is done.

4. Know the Exam Pattern well: This is an important exercise. If you know the exam pattern well, you can always decide on what sections are important in the exam as well as scoring. You can know what sections to attempt first to score the maximum with the help of the Paper Pattern of the exams.

5. Planned Revision: Once you finish the studying part, plan your revision to get the maximum advantage.Study the last exam first so that you just need to revise before the exam. The first exam revision can be done in the final days preceding the start of the board exams.
Nikhil Chaturvedi (JEE Main 2014 AIR 4) says: I did sufficient number of practice tests before the exam, which proved to be quite useful. Other than that, I was thorough with my NCERT and JEE Advanced course, which is more than enough.

Chances of answering well are better with a strong conceptual background. If you know your concepts, you may be able to figure out the answer rather than making a guess.

Mr. Shailendra Maheshwari, Director- Career Point suggests tips for Class XIIBoard preparation:

Take care of steps while derivation.
Always draw diagrams wherever possible while writing the test as it gives clear picture and understanding

7. Make time for relaxation: Schedule and organize a timetable that includes time for relaxation. Nobody can and should study continuously. A break every few hours is a must to break the monotony and to get fresh. Avoid relaxing by watching TV, playing games on the computer or such. They are distractions and should be kept away from. Rather listen to some relaxing music, go for a walk or just chill.
8. Avoid comparisons: Avoid asking friends and classmates about their preparation levels. Each individual is different and so is their capability. Rather focus on the positive part and do not compare yourself with someone else. Build on your strengths and make the best of it.
Study as per your convenience. Always do it your way. It is you who has to write the exam and you should be comfortable with the study. Study at times that are suitable to you and if it means you are comfortable studying the whole night through, do it by all means.
Pic9. Believe in yourself: Know that you are trying your best. It is good enough. Good confidence levels are terrific morale boosters. Believe in yourself. You know your capabilities and strengths. New IIT-JEE: Short-cuts won't help you crack it!

By: Saurabh Kumar Updated On: 18-Dec-2013, 08:59
KNOWN as one of the most prestigious and toughest entrances in the world, IIT-JEE’s pattern has changed quite a few times, if one looks from its beginnings. IITs themselves change the pattern after every 3 to 5 years so that the students cannot train themselves mechanically to crack the exam.

Changes so far
IIT-JEE used to have four papers of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English, which was removed later. It was initially a totally subjective paper-based exam, which was scored by hand. Then the exam used to happen in two stages, first a screening and then a mains which used to be subjective. After that screening was removed and there were three subjective papers, one for each subject.
The last major change took place in 2006 when instead of 3 papers IIT started taking two papers each of 3 hrs duration and both the papers consisting of all the three subjects and for the first time percentage of school marks was decided to be 60% as the qualifying criteria.

What is new
In the proposed format the exam will be known as ISEET. In it there will be two papers each of 3 hours duration. One will check the basic understanding of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and the other will check the advance level in the same subjects. One can understand that the exam schedule will be same as it is presently.
Now this will be the single exam for all IITsNIT and IIIT and conducted twice a year. All the academic responsibility lies with IIT and the operational responsibility will be taken care of by theCBSE. In the proposed pattern there will also be consideration of class 12 board percentage after converting it into percentile.
These proposals were given by T Ramasami committee and were studied by CABE committee. All this was set to go from 2013 but the all India faculty federation of IIT & IIT senate has opposed this move due to certain serious concerns like the quality of students entering into the IIT, rising chances of cheating in board exams and others malfunctions in the same. So the meetings are going on and the final decision of the pattern inclusion of board marks and the year of implementation is yet to be decided.

“Students’ grip on the fundamentals should be strong enough to handle any type of question ”

What is in store
As a teacher I think it does not matter how the questions will be asked. Students’ grip on the fundamentals of the subject should be strong enough to handle any type of question. According to me a students should study the topic starting from the definitions then related derivations and then move on to application-based questions and finally numericals.

He or she should have a lot of practice and involvement. One should not study the subjects horizontally but try to go in deep vertically as well. Never skip any line of theory in the text book. This will make you robust enough to handle any situation.

I will also advice the student to learn and remember the assumptions or postulates given before any derivation or mentioned in the definition because the places where we go wrong in the question are because of not remembering these things properly. You should also have practice to write things properly on paper rather than  trying to gather short cuts because board exams and the JEE will not be cracked by learning short cuts.
I wish luck to all the aspirants preparing for the engineering entrance and advise them not to worry about changing pattern but should focus only on studies and understanding of the subject.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (popularly known as IITs) are institutions of national importance established through an Act of Parliament for fostering excellence in education. There are fifteen IITs at present, located in Bhubaneswar, Bombay (Mumbai), Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras (Chennai), Mandi, Patna, Punjab, Rajasthan and Roorkee. Over the years, IITs have created world class educational platforms dynamically sustained through internationally recognized research based on excellent infrastructural facilities.
Today, alumni of these institutions occupy key positions in industry and academia in India and abroad. These institutions offer courses leading to Bachelor's degree in a number of engineering, technological and scientific disciplines. Admissions to the Undergraduate Programmes at these institutions are made through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
The extremely stringent standards of IIT-JEE present daunting challenges even to the best of students. To take the IIT-JEE head on, students need clarity of mind, mastery of subject matter and problem solving ability under pressure conditions.
IIT JEE Achiever at BASE, is an intensive 2-year training program for Plus 2 students. BASE has meticulously built a comprehensive resource base that is today an engine of building cutting edge competencies in our students. That more students qualify into the IITs from BASE than from all the other competing institutions in Karnataka put together, highlights the advantage BASE can give to your IIT-JEE preparation.

Beyond IIT-JEE
While IIT JEE Achiever helps you prepare for the tough IIT-JEE, it also helps in preparation for other competitive exams like AIEEE, BITSAT, CET, etc. Students desirous of careers in Science & Research, can aspire to join institutions like IISERs. The IISERs at Bhopal, Mohali, Pune, Kolkata and Thiruvanantapuram represent a unique initiative in India where teaching and education are totally integrated with state-of-the-art research. Admissions to IISERs are based on IIT-JEE scores.
Admission to 1st year IIT JEE Achiever is based on a selection test.

Why BASE for IIT-JEE?
Here are a few pointers:
BASE Methodology: The difference is: How to solve a problem Vs. How to solve the problem. We are focused on training our students on the process and logic of problem solving. This is the key takeaway from a BASE course. It stays for life.
Integrated Learning: IIT-JEE also measures students' grasp of the interrelationships among different topics and subjects. We at BASE train our students with this perspective.
Faculty: Over 150 faculty members, some of them ex-IIT professors - all of them understand the tremendous responsibility of shaping the future of bright young people. The commitment and passion are unmistakable.
Positive Academic Environment: Outstanding peer group, inspiring teachers and infrastructural support create a positive learning environment. "The value-based interactive environment is a most cherished experience" aver several students.

JEE main counselling[edit]

CBSE and CSAB are two different and independent boards. CBSE conducts JEE (Main) examination and publishes the merit list. CSAB only uses the merit list published by CBSE for seat allocation purposes. In previous years the admission process was conducted through CCB (Central Counseling Board), while this year CCB has been renamed as CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) for completing the seat allocation process.

Pattern of examination[edit]

JEE-Main Exam has two papers, Paper-1 and Paper-2. Candidates may opt for either or both of them.
  • Paper-1 is for admission in B.Tech (online and offline).
  • Paper-2 is for admission in B.Arch and B.Planning (offline only).
And both papers contain objective type questions and the (approximately 150,000) qualified students are eligible to attend the JEE-Advanced Exam. The eligibility to write the JEE-Advanced exam will be based on the performance in the JEE-Main examination. The option to write paper-1 online was officially withdrawn from 2014 onwards, and it has been put off for a later date.

History of IIT BOMBAY

IIT Bombay
IIT Bombay Main Building
IIT Bombay was the second IIT to be established in 1958 with assistance from UNESCO and with funds contributed by the Soviet Union. UNESCO agreed to provide equipment and technical experts mainly from the Soviet Union, while the Government of India accepted the responsibility for all other expenses including the cost of the building project and recurring expenses. The site chosen for the institute was Powai, eighteen miles (29 km) from the city of Mumbai (then Bombay), with an area of 550 acres (2.2 km2) which was given by the then Bombay State Government. While construction was being completed, the first academic session of the Institute opened on 25 July 1958, in its temporary home at the Synthetic and Art Silk Mills Research Association (SASMIRA) building in Worli, Mumbai with 100 students. These students were selected from over 3,400 applicants for admission to the first year undergraduate engineering programmes of Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Engineering Physics, Energy, Mechanical, Metallurgical Engineering and MSc Chemistry. One of the main objectives of establishing the Institute was to develop facilities for studies in a variety of specialised engineering and technological sciences. The need for establishing adequate facilities for postgraduate studies and research was kept uppermost in mind in the founding years.
While the Institute was functioning provisionally at Worli, an effort was made to expedite the progress of the building project at its permanent location and Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of the Institute at Powai on 10 March 1959.
